Three pieces by Pablo Picasso, including two which are ink on paper, were auctioned in Dubai on February 12.

Along with a painting by a UAE royal family member, the Picasso artworks were the star of the show.

One of the pieces is a lithography that Picasso created a few years after the end of the second World War, in 1949.

The other work was created earlier, in 1945, using the gouache technique with opaque watercolor, ink, and wash on paper. Lastly, the third piece, titled “Like an animal,” was created in 1957.

All three paintings were turned into NFTs (non-fungible token) and fractionalized. This meant that more people could acquire a share of the unique masterpieces.

“The fractionalization of art represents a new paradigm fostering a new approach to the appreciation of art,” said Ryan Howells, founder of The Rare Antiquities.

The other highlight of the event was the Royal Painting created by the mother of Sheikh Humaid Bin Khalid Al Qasimi. Artist Noora Alredhwan painted the piece in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the UAE.

It was last displayed in 2020 during Expo Dubai at the UAE Pavilion. This auction marked the first time it was accessible for public viewing again.

All works were auctioned at Sama-L-Ain Gallery, a luxurious space in Dubai that is filled with exclusive pieces of art.
