IHG Hotels and Resorts has announced plans to develop ten new Holiday Inn brand family hotels across Germany, in partnership Solutions4Hotels.

The agreement will see the addition of around 800 rooms, with each site also featuring “a futuristic service station” with sustainable fuel solutions and electric charging facilities.

The new sites will be developed along Germany’s main motorways, and will all be in close proximity to large cities.

Two properties have so far been confirmed under the Multi-Development-Agreement (MDA), in Leipzig and Hamburg.

The Holiday Inn Express Hamburg South is scheduled to open in summer 2023, and will offer 80 rooms, as well as a breakfast area, marketplace and free wifi.

Meanwhile the 79-room Holiday Inn Express Leipzig South is expected to open towards the end of 2023, and will run on geothermal heating, with energy production from solar panels being fed back into the hotel’s circuit system.

IHG currently operates 91 hotels across Germany (79 of which belong to the Holiday Inn brand family), with a further 25 properties in the pipeline.

The group recently signed an agreement with LRO Hospitality to rebrand an existing hotel in Dresden under its Holiday Inn Express brand.

The 306-key hotel is expected to reopen as part of the IHG family within the next four to six months, and will undergo a full refurbishment to be rebranded to Holiday Inn Express Dresden by the summer of 2024.

Commenting on the news Willemijn Geels, VP development Europe at IHG Hotels and Resorts, said:

“This is an exciting project for us, especially if we consider the sustainability aspect. At IHG Hotels and Resorts, we are committed to help shape the future of responsible travel together with those who stay, work and partner with us.

“This commitment as part of our ten-year responsible business plan, Journey to Tomorrow, also extends to the way we build new hotels, and the Holiday Inn Express Leipzig South is a great example of sustainable construction.

“We know that S4H and their development partner share this passion, and we look forward to working together on the many new projects that are yet to come.”
