Hyatt has added the first property under its JDV brand (formerly known as Joie de Vivre) in Taiwan.

The 140-room Episode Hsinchu is situated on Taiwan’s northwestern coast, around an hour from Taipei and 40 minutes from Taoyuan International airport.

Features include the 1930s-inspired Westwood Restaurant, curated by Michelin-starred chef Richie Lin, and communal space Social, which offers all-day complimentary snacks, refreshments and a daily happy hour.

The city of Hsinchu is home to the Hsinchu Science Park, as well as attractions including Chenghuang Temple, 18 Peaks Mountain Park and Siangshan Wetlands.

Hyatt added JDV to its portfolio when it acquired Two Roads Hospitality in 2018, and the brand currently counts around 20 hotels across North America, China and Europe, including three properties in Sweden.

Earlier this year Hyatt announced plans to add a Hello Kitty-branded hotel to its portfolio, operating under the JDV portfolio.

The 221-room property is expected to open in 2025 as part of the Sanya Hello Kitty Resort.

Commenting on the news Aaron Chan, chairman of Riant Capital and creator of the Hotel Episode brand, said:

“Modern travellers have outgrown the one-size-fits-all business versus leisure mindset, and in response, we created the Hotel Episode brand for that community.

“Our guests can fuse a day’s worth of collaborative work with new encounters that not only energize them, but also make time for true rest.”
