EL AL has signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with Australia’s Victorian government to launch nonstop flights between Tel Aviv and Melbourne.

The agreement will see the two parties work together to begin the route by June 2024, with the intention to offer three flights per week, equating to 44,000 seats per year.

The LOI was signed by Ben Carroll, Minister for Industry and Innovation, and EL AL’s CEO Dina Ben Tal Ganancia.

EL AL had previously announced plans to launch pilot flights between Tel Aviv and Melbourne in 2020, but these were postponed due to the3 onset of Covid-19.

In July last year Ben Tal Ganancia reiterated the carrier’s intentions to launch routes to both Australia and Tokyo, as well as flights to Dublin – service to the Irish capital is scheduled to begin on March 26.

Commenting on the news Quotes attributable Ben Carroll said:

“We’re partnering with EL AL, Israel’s national airline, to back direct flights between Melbourne and Tel Aviv to strengthen business connections and create jobs locally.

“More international flights to such an important trading partner will power our economy and boost our status as a key destination for tourism, trade and investment.”
