BEIJING – In Shanghai, where millions are under lockdown, shortages of food and a lack of access to medical care are turning anger and frustration against the government and the Communist Party of China.
Widely shared videos showed residents stuck at home yelling at Vice-Premier Sun Chunlan when she visited the city recently, saying they were “running out of rice and oil”.
