Glasgow isn’t just Scotland’s biggest city, it’s one of its best-looking too. For the best views of its trademark character, you’ll want to hit the heights with a trip to a rooftop bar. And there are dozens to choose from. The best roof terraces in the city combine sparkling views with superb cocktails and irresistible good vibes. Even better if there’s good grub available too. Unsure where to start? From a Grade II-listed former bank to a swanky hotel rooftop, we’ve cherry-picked seven of the best rooftop bars in Glasgow.

1. Red Sky Bar

Perched atop the Radisson Red Hotel, the Red Sky Bar offers sweeping views of the River Clyde, Clydeside Shipyards and the SEC Armadillo. It’s not all about the views here either (though we’ll admit they are a major selling point): the drinks are excellent too. The menu features just about every type of spirit you can think of, as well as beers, bubbles and wine. But views that good warrant an extra special tipple, so we recommend splashing out on one of the signature cocktails.

2. October

Between its hot pink bathtub and bountiful cherry blossoms, it isn’t hard to see why October boasts one of the city’s most Instagrammed rooftop bars. The drinks menu is every bit as fun and flirty as the décor, with cocktails like the ‘Chanel No. 5 Bramble’ and the ‘Drumstick Martini’. But the bar is best known for its brilliant pornstar martinis. In fact, it’s said that October has created Glasgow’s finest frozen martini. Beyond cocktails, there’s an extensive list range of beers, wines and spirits to choose from, as well as crowd-pleasing small plates and a bellini brunch if you’re feeling peckish.

 3. Chinaski’s

This literary-themed bar celebrates the 20th-century poet, short story writer and novelist Charles Bukowski. It’s an intimate spot, with dozen-or-so candlelit tables inside and a sun-filled terrace open from spring to summer. It’s best known for its bourbon, and the menu features at least half a dozen bourbon signature cocktails, though there are plenty of other drinks to choose from. The food is excellent and vegans are well-catered for too. Arrive hungry, and tuck into Korean fried cauliflower with red dragon sauce, fish tacos with jalapeno jam, smash patty burgers, and more.  You won’t regret it.

4. Mackintosh at the Willow

If you’re looking to make the most of the sunshine, hotfoot to Mackintosh at the Willow. It’s one of the only south-facing roof terraces in the city centre. Perched atop the iconic Mackintosh building, designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh in 1903, the space shows off original features like the famous chimney and original brickwork. The terrace is only open during the summer months so watch this space for 2023 opening dates!

5. Malone’s Irish Bar

A classic Irish pub in the heart of the city is not the sort of place you would expect to find one of Glasgow’s best rooftops, but then Malone’s is full of surprises. The terrace is a real sun trap and the food is superb. Don’t miss the burgers and loaded fries – they’re legendary. They screen the full roster of fixtures too, making it an excellent option for those looking for a dose of live sport alongside their craft beers.

6. The Corinthian Club

Housed in one of Glasgow’s most impressive buildings, the Corinthian Club has been described as “the jewel in Glasgow’s crown”. It’s easy to see why. Featuring a 26-foot glass dome, the A-listed building sprawls across five floors of restaurants, bars and events space. But come summer, everyone wants to be outside on that rooftop terrace. Soak in the city views as you merrily clink your cocktail glasses or tuck into a light bite.

7. Windows at The Carlton George

Set on the seventh floor of The Carlton George Hotel, Windows serves up panoramic views of the city alongside delicious grub and even better cocktails. The terrace is open for lunch and dinner, but for something, a little different try the afternoon tea. Scones will never be the same once you’ve enjoyed them al fresco, high above Merchant City.
