Now, rather than riding out, she has bowed out, officially announcing that will be standing down as PM. Her resignation comes after a string of political U-turns, the removal of her chief whips, the resignation of her home-secretary and the sacking of her chancellor, Kwasi Kwarteng. Truss’s tenure has been fraught: clocking up just 44 days in the hot seat, making hers the shortest reign in political history.
