Just weeks ago, Prime Minister Liz Truss announced that she could ‘ride out the storm’ the country was facing. Now, rather than riding out, she has bowed out, officially announcing that will be standing down as PM. Her resignation comes after a string of political U-turns, the removal of her chief whips, the resignation of her home-secretary and the sacking of her chancellor, Kwasi Kwarteng. Truss’s tenure has been fraught: clocking up just 44 days in the hot seat, making hers the shortest reign in political history.
