Once you have eased out of the Eurotunnel, why not head for Champagne and Épernay? Stay in the Royal Champagne, with its heavenly views over the vineyards. Make time the next day to do a tour of Moët et Chandon in central Épernay, or book a tour of the Dom Perignon cellars in Hautvillers, where some of the world’s finest champagne is made. You can even buy a few cases for collection on your return journey.

An ideal next stop is the beautiful walled medieval town of Beaune, in the heart of Burgundy’s wine making region.
