The Duke of Edinburgh died last April aged 99, having served as royal consort alongside the Queen for almost 74 years of marriage. He was associated with 992 organisations during his long life, in roles such as President, Patron or Honorary Member or in another capacity, with his focus primarily oriented towards science and technology, youth welfare, education, conservation, the environment and sport.

Having had an illustrious naval career as a young man, Philip maintained his interest in and support of the Services in his royal life. He served as Colonel-in-Chief of REME for over five decades, a role which the Royal Family social media posts said ‘combined his enduring support of the Forces, and keen interest in engineering.’
