When we were invited to dine at Mr White’s in Leicester Square in London, we jumped at the chance. We booked it following a particularly busy day full of intense meetings, but we’d not had time for lunch so we were pretty peckish by the time we reached Mr White’s.

Mr White’s is situated in prime position on Leicester Square, and you can’t miss it with it’s stylish green and white awning and huge lettering above it, it’s truly impressive.

Once seated we had the chance to take in the surroundings, the atmosphere was buzzy, especially as it was only 6 pm on a Tuesday evening. Adorning the walls were several pieces of artwork featuring the reknowned owner himself Mr White, just incase you’d forgotten what he looks like, each piece reminding us of his talent and the rebel inside, such a personality.

The restaurant is large and brightly lit, featuring differnt dining areas, tables for two for the more cosy experience, leather banquets, or larger tables for larger parties. We loved watching our fellow diners enjoy their meals, there were smiles all round.

We began with a cocktail while we checked out the menu, which was huge, it took a while!  We decided to not go too huge and started with a cheesey garlic bread to share,it was hot and tasty, just enough to wet our appetite. We then chose the cannelloni al forno, which is one of my favourite Italian dishes of spinach and ricotta with a rich Parmesan cheese sauce, it was amazing and piping hot, I also had a green salad on the side. My partner chose the famous Mr. White’s Lasagne, the ragù alla Bolognese sauce was sublime and he had a generous sprinkling of Parmesan cheese to complete it, it was moist and flavoursome. The only downside for me personally is the fact that the calorie content for each dish is also on the menu, arghhh! I think we should be offered the choice of a menu with or without that little nugget of information!

We finished our meal with a highly calorific baked cheesecake and a Tiramisu, we shared both, we didn’t regret the calories at all, it was well worth it, and tomorrow is another day, three hours at least in the gym!

The menu caters to all dining requirements and offers steaks and authentic Italian dishes from their fresh pizza to a great variety of indulgent pasta dishes besides the ones we chose. Marco’s friends also feature and inspire the menu, such as Frankie Dettori’s favourite Margherita pizza and Alex James’s Blue Monday pizza, and they looked amazing.

The bar has a great wine and cocktail selection and there is even a Mr. White’s London Dry Gin. Marco says ” When learning the craft of distilling gin, the principles for a good sauce are the same as for a good quality spirit”.

Mr White’s is a great restaurant, the food was delicious, the staff attentive and friendly and the ambience electric, we will return and next time we’ll definitely being ordering the pizzas!
