The Bottle Club is shining the light on an exceptional sparkling wine: Marchesi Antinori Franciacorta Cuvee Royale.

The ideal bottle of ‘traditional’ fizz for those on the hunt for a celebratory drop, read on for detail on why we think this bottle deserves a huge shout-out.

Marchesi Antinori Franciacorta Cuvee Royale, 75cl. £23.99 (was £24.99)

A product of Italy’s Montenisa Estate, based around the village of Calino, in the heart of Franciacorta, this Cuvee Royale has a subtle richness at play which sits at a premium to Prosecco.

All the fruit for this wine is sourced from the estate’s own vineyards: sixty perfectly sited hectares on the hill of Santo Stefano. This Antinori wine has a light straw-yellow appearance with delicate and persistent bubbles. On the nose, it provides notes of white peaches, bread, and lees with crisp apple and zingy lemon flavours leading the way on the palate with the typical liveliness of a Brut.

The Antinori estate remains to be one of the oldest and most prestigious Italian wineries. Remarkably, it is now the family’s 26th generation that has taken over the reigns- very few wineries in the World can make that kind of claim. Probably most famous for their range of Chianti wines from Northern Italy, they also have well-established wineries further South around Orvieto; more centrally near Montalcino and on the West Coast near Bolgheri.
