Sheriff’s deputies detained and arrested a man in his 20s at the Polynesian Mobile Home Park after a brief foot pursuit in connection with a stolen Honda Civic on Thursday, according to Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station officials.
Deputies at the scene confirmed that another person, a female, was also detained.
The suspect was found shirtless and was described as a Hispanic man covered with tattoos from his upper body to his face, according to SCV Sheriff’s Station watch commander Lt. Brandon Barclay. The man is suspected to be a gang member, Barclay added.
The man was initially found riding a Honda all-terrain vehicle, which also turned out to be reported as stolen. Alejandro Pacheco, the ATV’s owner who was at the scene, said he was happy to get his vehicle back.
Pacheco said he had left the ATV parked at the Canyon Ridge apartment complex, which is just down the street from the Polynesian Mobile Home Park, two nights prior, but noticed it was missing Thursday morning. Pacheco noted that he was surprised his property only made it less than a block down the street.
Several neighbors of the man arrested said such thefts are not uncommon in the neighborhood.
The suspect was being held with no bail as of Thursday afternoon.
