The monarch has withdrawn from a string of high-profile engagements recently, including the State Opening of Parliament on Tuesday, where Prince Charles delivered his mother’s speech. While she did not attend day one of the Royal Windsor Horse Show (reportedly making a private visit to her horses instead, according to the Sun), her appearance on the second day was worth the wait for royal fans, as she was pictured smiling and chatting excitedly to fellow attendees from inside a car.

Well known to be one of the Queen’s most beloved occasions, she has never missed the Show since its inception 79 years ago. This year’s iteration runs from 12 to 15 May, with 14 of the monarch’s own horses reportedly competing in a number of events over the four days.

The event’s location is ideal considering the monarch has been grappling with mobility issues, with the MailOnline reporting that she struggles to walk or stand for long periods of time. At the Royal Windsor Horse Show, however, she need not travel far from her own private apartments in Windsor Castle, and can watch the action from the passenger seat of her Range Rover.
