Summer camps are cautiously optimistic they will be able to operate this year as COVID-19 restrictions are expected to ease across Canada. The Canadian Camping Association says it expects day camps will be allowed to operate across the country in some capacity. Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliott says her province is looking into how overnight camps may reopen. Quebec announced on May 7 that overnight camps will be allowed to operate in the province this summer. Stephane Richard, the president of the Canadian Camping Association, says his membership is in regular communication with provincial governments about the logistics of reopening this summer. He said that about a million Canadian children attend summer camp every year. Overnight camps were closed in every province except for New Brunswick last summer due to the pandemic.
