AIK Fotboll’s New Jersey Is A Love Letter To Stockholm

Swedish football club AIK Fotboll has presented a new limited-edition jersey designed by Nike and honoring its hometown of Stockholm. Named the “AIK Stockholm Edition” cup jersey, its production will be limited to 132 pieces.

AIK’s attachment to the city of Stockholm runs deep — and not just because the club was founded there over 130 years ago. Its home turf is the massive Friends Arena, Sweden’s National Stadium, and the club has been fighting at the top of the field in Sweden’s national league for as long as most of us can remember.

It’s only logical, then, that the club feels compelled to show its gratitude and give back to its beloved hometown in some way. That’s why the jersey’s design is inspired by the city, and all profits from its sales will go to Stadium Sports Camp, a Swedish nonprofit organization working to give young people in need access to sports training, facilities, and communities.

With previous limited edition jerseys delivering plenty of on-pitch glam-factor — think last year’s deep blue and rich gold design honoring the club’s devoted fans — the bar for this year’s iteration was set quite high indeed. Made of 100 percent recycled polyester in crisp white with rich black and gold accents, the jersey certainly delivers on style — but it’s got plenty of substance, too. It features a pattern inspired by the early Renaissance painting Vädersolstavlan (“The Sundog Painting”), one of the oldest known depictions of Stockholm, and handmade raised club logos made out of 3D silicone, for extra pizzazz. So if you were looking for a unique gold-accented, honest sportswear piece, look no further.
