The Los Angeles County Fire Department called knockdown at 9:41 p.m. on a structure fire Tuesday night and Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies arrested one individual in connection with the incident, according to law enforcement officials.
Jeremi Stafford, supervising dispatcher for the Fire Department, said firefighters received reports of a structure fire with smoke showing on the roof on the 21100 block of Cedarfalls Drive in Saugus at approximately 9:07 p.m.
According to Fire Department officials, firefighters on arrival at the scene investigated and reported an attic fire on a two-story, single-family dwelling.
SCV Sheriff’s Station deputies were called to assist at the scene, according to Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokeswoman for the station. Arriaga also said the initial call reported a backyard fire that was possibly started by a resident of the home.
The Sheriff’s Department’s Arson Explosives Detail was called to investigate the incident, she added.
On-scene reports indicated there was extensive damage to the home — with heavy damage to the first and second floors, and the garage, too. Inside the structure it was burnt black, and the last remaining bit of smoke could be seen through the holes in the roof.
According to fire officials, firefighters reported the incident as an attic fire, but deputies noted the fire was in the backyard. After the fire was extinguished, firefighters and deputies interviewed neighbors to gather further information.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Fire Department officials noted there was no transport as a result of the incident and no injuries.
Arriaga confirmed one arrest was made in connection with the fire. However, she said, further information would be released by LASD’s Arson Explosives Detail as personnel finalize their investigation.
