The great, the good and the downright glamorous gather to bid Dame Vivienne Westwood a final farewell
From Dame Vanessa Redgrave to Joely Richardson, Lady Amelia Windsor to the Marchioness of Bath, aesthetes, stars and poseurs gathered at Southwark Cathedral to pay tribute to the iconoclastic British fashion designer
In the shadow of the Shard at Southwark Cathedral, the great and the glamorous gathered in their iconoclastic-finest to pay tribute to an archaic pillar of British fashion: Dame Vivienne Westwood. This wasn’t just a memorial, it was a fashion memorial – and with a patriotic slant. From Lady Amelia Windsor to Lily Cole, Bianca Jagger to the Marchioness of Bath, mourners gathered in black (as showcased by Beckham in vertiginous heels, and Elle Fanning with a pillbox hat and veil) as well as sporting Westwood’s distinctive tartan. Helena Bonham Carter was dressed head to toe in the designer’s garms – a walking-talking tribute to ‘the alternative Queen Mother’ as she was known. Here are some of the best-dressed mourners who came to remember fashion’s original grand dame.
