He added that he didn’t feel nervous about meeting Zara, his wife of 11 years, because he had met Princess Anne, the patron of Scottish Rugby, through the sport, and her cousins Prince William and Prince Harry were ‘massive’ sports fans and had met the team on several occasions. ‘[I had] met more of the family than you’d normally have met of the woman you start dating,’ he joked.

It comes after Tindall discussed first meeting his wife, with whom he shares three children, Mia, eight, Lena, four, and Lucas, one, sharing details of their first date. ‘First actual date, just went out for lunch locally. The pair married on 30 July 2011, at Canongate Kirk in Edinburgh, just three months after Zara’s cousin Prince William’s royal wedding to the then Kate Middleton.

The Tindalls were first introduced during the Rugby World Cup in Australia in 2003, marrying nine years later. Tindall would go on to star in the final of that year’s rugby series, lifting the trophy for the English side. The tournament’s top point scorer was Johnny Wilkinson, whose drop-kick goal in extra time won England the final game against Australia, 20 – 17.
