The Prince and Princess of Wales have delighted royal watchers by releasing a touching new photograph of Kate Middleton with her three children to celebrate Mother’s Day.
The light-hearted image, shared on the couple’s official Instagram account, shows the princess climbing a tree with Prince George, nine, Princess Charlotte, seven, and Prince Louis, four, in the what is thought to be grounds near their country home of Anmer Hall, in Norfolk. Kate is balanced on a fork in the tree, flanked by her two sons, while Charlotte perches on a separate branch. A second image shows Kate laughing as she picks up a giggling Prince Louis, whose head is tipped towards the camera. The caption reads: ‘Happy Mother’s Day from our family to yours.’
The photographs were taken by royal photographer Matt Porteous. It appears to have been taken at the same time as the family snap that was used for the Waleses’ 2022 Christmas card. The family were casually dressed for the outdoor photoshoot: Kate wears a pair of dark wash skinny jeans, £255 broderie anglaise blouse from MiH Jeans, and her go-to £79 white Superga pumps; Louis wears a blue and white stripe polo shirt, £40 blue chino shorts from childrens’ label Trotters, black trainers and a belt; Charlotte looks sweet in a £30 Hampton Canvas pumps, also from Trotters, and a denim playsuit embroidered with a row of strawberries around the collar; George is also in Trotters, wearing £40 chino shorts with £30 Nike trainers and a £55 polo shirt from Ralph Lauren.
Porteous has photographed the Waleses at key moments in the family’s life including Prince Louis’ christening, the unveiling of Kate Middleton’s Back to Nature garden at the Royal Chelsea Flower Show in 2019, and the family’s 2018 Christmas card, which was also taken at Anmer Hall. He also accompanied the then Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on their tour of the Caribbean in March 2021.
It is one of a number of posts shared by the Royal Family to mark Mother’s Day. King Charles III paid tribute to his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II, while Camilla, the Queen Consort, remembered her late mother, Rosalind Shand.
Sarah, Duchess of York, shared a sentimental post shining the spotlight on her daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie. Alongside a photograph of the princesses as children, she wrote: ‘I’m so proud of my girls and the beautiful women and mothers they have grown up to be. I feel extremely blessed to call them mine. My darlings, you are my sunshine always & forever. #happymothersday.’
