High-end clothing brand Hermes has opened a new location in Wuhan’s Heartland 66 mall.
Hermes reports the new store replaces the previous Wuhan location, which opened in 2012, and emphasises the Maison’s renewed dedication to the thriving metropolis.
According to WWD the store’s sales topped 30 million renminbi, or $4.45 million, on the first day, citing local sources. However, a subsequent comment on the post claims the actual sales amount is more like $3.11 million
The Wuhan store, which has two floors and showcases 16 primary product categories, was designed by the Parisian architecture firm RDAI. It focuses on providing guests with an experience that blends the city’s atmosphere with the “inventiveness and skilled craftsmanship” of the Parisian label.
The facade of the store is inspired by the mountain fault lines and designed with narrow ceramic tiles in shades of ochre.
The ground floor features a variety of leather goods, men’s ready-to-wear, and shoes. Traditional Grecques lights, created for Hermes in 1925 and used in its stores around the world, are used to light the area.
Vertical bamboo panels serve as lighting filters for the main staircase. After ascending, visitors can enter the room devoted to collections. In the women’s ready-to-wear and shoe section, a mezzanine floor overlooks the floor below. The walls in the jewellery and watch section are woven from Japanese paper.
Hermes also designed VIP rooms with silk panels that are hand-painted in abstract compositions to create a chic and cosy atmosphere.
