The world moves fast but fashion moves faster because May, the host month for Afterpay Australian Fashion Week, is already around the corner and the 2023 schedule looks HUGE.

Afterpay Australian Fashion Week (AAFW) will be kicking off on May 15 and running until May 19 at its familiar home base of Carriageworks. An enormous run of 45 designers and presentations will be participating in 2023 that will include familiar names St. Agni, Bec + Bridge, Anna Quan, Bianca Spender and Aje.  These will be joined by sophomore shows from two of last year’s most memorable designers Alix Higgins and Wynn Hamlyn.

Making their debut this year, and the opening collection of Fashion Week, is Lesleigh Jermanus of Alémais, who won the Emerging Designer of the Year award at last year’s Fashion Laureate held in Sydney. Also making their debut appearance is Melbourne-based brand Joslin, Maggie Marilyn and Jeremy Hershan’s Haulier.

It also marks the return of several designers who, for various reasons, were unavailable to show last year and whose absence was definitely felt. Elevated resortwear COMMAS, Yousef Akbar, Christian Kimber and Carline Reznik have all been announced as confirmed.

AAFW is also continuing its platforming of First Nations designers and talents, with 12 Indigenous designers now locked in to show collections including Ngali, Maara Collective and Gammin Threads with more included in the David Jones’s Indigenous Fashion Projects Runway taking place on the Wednesday, May 17.

Select shows during the 2023 AAFW will once again be open to the public with tickets on sale now, starting at $120 for runways and $49 for talks and seminars.
