Kate, 40, sported a twinkling necklace with a citrine pendant – the birthstone of November birthdays like King Charles III – to host a reception for wheelchair rugby players at Hampton Court Palace. The stone, which has a rich amber colour, is said to hold special properties.

‘The Citrine Baby Treasure Necklace is made using 100 per cent recycled solid 9ct yellow gold and set with a beautiful citrine,’ the company, Daniella Draper, explains on its website. ‘The birthstone for November, citrine assists in manifesting your biggest dreams, bringing in more success and prosperity.’

The colour of the jewel was the perfect counterpoint to the plum colour of the Princess of Wales’ Roland Mouret suit – a classic slim flit blazer and trousers ensemble that she previously wore during her royal tour of Boston at the start of December. She finished the outfit with suede burgundy heels, gold hoop earrings by Danielle Draper and a soft rose pink sweater that she previously wore in 2020.

Kate, who is patron of the Rugby Football League, met England Wheelchair Rugby League players and coaching team to discuss their victory in November’s tournament. The princess also hinted that her three children – Prince George, nine, Princess Charlotte, seven, and Prince George, four – were fans of the sport, revealing she and her family had watched the exciting World Cup final match on TV.
