2022 has seen a huge year in film as the industry continues to recover from the pandemic. Baz Luhrmann released his spangly new epic Elvis while the long-awaited sequels Top Gun: Maverick and Avatar: The Way of Water also charged into the box office. In television we saw second successful seasons of Only Murders in the Building and The White Lotus while the new Jenna Ortega led series Wednesday is smashing records on Netflix.

Indeed, the upcoming awards season is going to be star-studded with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association first off the rank to announce the 2023 Golden Globe nominations. Despite controversy surrounding the lack of diversity within in the voting collective and the event, it is set to air on January 10.

The Banshees of Inisherin – a dark comedy by Martin McDonagh – leads with eight nominations while Everything Everywhere All At Once earned six nods. The glitzy high-octane film Babylon starring Margot Robbie and Brad Pitt trails with five nominations, two for the actors performances. The White Lotus, Euphoria, Pam and Tommy, and Inventing Anna all also received praise.

In music, Taylor Swift was nominated for her track “Carolina” from Where the Crawdads Sing, Lady Gaga for her track in Top Gun: Maverick titled “Hold My Hand” and Rihanna for highly celebrated song “Lift Me Up” in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
