The Platinum Jubilee Pageant

The Platinum Jubilee Pageant is being held on the final day of the bank holiday weekend and will be televised across the BBC. The procession will begin at Buckingham Palace and progress for half a mile along The Mall.

The first act will start with the bells of Westminster Abbey being peeled as they were on the day of the Queen’s coronation in 1953, before a 1,750-strong military parade will march.

The second act, which will feature 150 ‘national treasures’, including Ed Sheeran, Jeremy Irons and Bill Bailey, will aim to highlight how British and Commonwealth creativity and culture has evolved throughout the Queen’s reign. The 1.5-kilometre procession will encompass 2,500 volunteers and members of the public and attempt to showcase defining moments of music trends, dance styles and fashion that have ‘defined the decades’.

The third act will be a 12-part play highlighting ‘key moments’ of the Queen’s life, as well as her personal interests. Among the memorable highlights that will be featured are Her Majesty’s marriage to her late husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, as well as her coronation. It will also feature her love of animals with horses and corgis taking some ‘central roles’.
