The great outdoors served as inspiration for Hermes’ Spring/Summer 2023 show. Picture sand dunes that serve as a canvas for the changing colours of dawn to dusk – a parallel to the pieces that make up the collection.
Creative Director for womenswear Nadege Vanhee-Cybulski ventured into the concept of adaptability and travelling, specifically how it’s changed in a post-pandemic world. With the idea of a “rave in the desert”, Vanhee-Cybulski created a collection that balanced both refinement and utilitarianism.
Tanned leather windbreakers and a coat with a hidden mesh that seemed like it came straight from a tent started off the show. Flowy dresses in a bright coral pink and red (to represent the setting sun) are juxtaposed with elastic cords. Textured prints and glass beads mimic the movement one might find in nature.
The sandy, tanned colours are an obvious nod to the desert – but that’s not to say the collection was lacking in colour. Scarves and shoes brought in an air of lightness with tinges of orange, a deep green and blue. An even more obvious nod was the large animated sand dune that took center stage at the show, projecting the different colours from day to night.
