Feed 9 Billion (Feed9B), a platform that champions food innovation and sustainability, held a gala dinner at the 1-Atico events space on 30 August. Around 160 people, mainly from the food and beverage and food tech sectors, attended the dinner, which was graced by Mr Alvin Tan, Minister of State for the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth, and the Ministry of Trade & Industry.
Diners tucked into a five-course dinner, which included roasted plant-based prawns and plant-based Hokkaido squid tempura, both by Growthwell Foods; roasted pumpkin veloute made with shredded plant-based chicken from Shandi Global, and ice-cream made from animal-free proteins from Coolhaus. Proceeds from the dinner were donated to The Farm to Families Campaign, which purchases locally-grown produce for less-privileged families in Singapore.
The gala dinner was held in conjunction with the launch of the Feed9B Singapore Restaurant Week, where guests tasted products from four cell-based start-ups. They are Umami Meats, Avant, Aleph Farms, and Shiok Meats. The Feed9B Singapore Restaurant Week, which was part of this year’s Singapore Food Festival, showcased plant-based meat and food alternatives from 14 food technology suppliers and 11 restaurant brands.
