Although it has never been confirmed whether a private Easter egg hunt is arranged at the castle for younger guests, during an interview in 2016, Kate revealed that Her Majesty ‘always leaves a little gift or something in their room when we go and stay’. Given this, the Queen may well have provided some festive treats for her grandchildren this year.
The royal cohort (exclusing Her Majesty) were pictured attending the Easter Sunday service at Windsor Castle, together with the Wessexes, Princess Eugenie, several members of Princess Margaret’s family, Peter Phillips and his children, and the Tindalls. The Duchess of Cambridge opted for a lovely spring ensemble of a Emilia Wickstead pastel blue coat dress and a Jane Taylor headband. Princess Charlotte was dressed in matching tones to her mother’s outfit, in pale blue tights, a sweet floral blue dress and navy cardigan. Prince George and his father also coordinated in their smart navy suits and perfectly polished shoes.

The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall, who were not present at the Sunday service at St George’s Chapel as they were Birkhall, attended the Royal Maundy service in the place of Her Majesty on Thursday. For the occasion, the Queen usually travels to a different cathedral across the country to hand out special coins to ‘men and women in recognition for their contribution to their community and church.’ The ceremony has taken place every year in England since 600 AD and was taken nationwide at the start of the Queen’s reign in 1952.
