The duke later recalled his time spent in Kenya during his gap year before attending the University of St. Andrews, where he learnt from experts about wildlife and environmental challenges. Prince William has continued his dedication to spreading light on the current crisis to this day and in 2021, he launched The Earthshot Prize, ‘the most prestigious global prize for the environment in history’.
According to The Royal Foundation website, ‘The Earthshot Prize aims to turn the current pessimism surrounding environmental issues into optimism that we can rise to the biggest challenges of our time’. Last year, there were five winners across the different catagories, including the Republic of Costa Rica, who all received £1 million in prize money, an Earthshot Prize medal, and ‘a global network of professional and technical support to scale these cutting-edge environmental solutions’.
