Spread the love

Welcome to Watches of the Week, where we’ll track the rarest, wildest, and most covetable watches spotted on celebrities.

On Wednesday, Andrew Garfield attended the Costume Designers Guild Awards to accept the Spotlight award, which is awarded to an actor with “an enduring commitment to excellence, including a special awareness of the role and importance of costume design.” While getting ready for the event, which watch did Garfield—his head swelling with the importance of clothing and accessories and a special awareness for their impact—choose? His trust Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra. That’s a big honor for Omega; you know Garfield really cared about this night, because he wept while receiving the award!

Good week for the Aqua Terra, by the way, which was one of the highlights to come out of Omega’s announced 2022 releases. Garfield’s, in black, may be the staid simple choice, but there’s a lot of fun on the way, as Omega is going to start churning out the watch with a handful of dials in colors like shell pink and lagoon green. No word on if they’re CDGA-worthy yet but they sure look nice. Also this week: Kristen Stewart extends her love of Chanel to the wrist, and Ben Simmons picked up multiple wins in his return to Philadelphia on Thursday night.

Ben Simmons’s Rolex Sky-Dweller

Everything went well for Ben Simmons, as he faced the Philly fans for the first time since his very public playoff meltdown last year. His new team, the Brooklyn Nets, blew out the 76ers; he took the same amount of shots and scored the same amount of points as James Harden in the fourth quarter, despite sitting on the bench; most importantly, he looked great doing it, as he paired a yellow-and-black Louis Vuitton football jersey-inspired knit with a gold-and-black Rolex Sky Dweller. This is the benefit of being a pro basketball player: the ability to coordinate the watch with your outfit the way high schoolers match their tops to their sneakers.

Kristen Stewart’s Chanel Première Velours

The Premiere is the first watch Chanel ever made: In 1987, the house took inspiration from the column in Paris’s Place Vendôme, and the stopper on its bottles of perfume. Chanel relaunched the watch in 2013 and paraphrased Kevin Garnett to describe it as “a flat, smooth surface where anything is possible.” That’s dope. The brand must have known then that the sky was the limit because Kristen Stewart chose to wear this watch to the Independent Spirit Awards. Just a small upgrade over her beloved Casio.

Anthony Davis’s Audemars Piguet Royal Oak

When a new Royal Oak comes out, it’s standard industry practice that the brand’s best clients get first dibs before it reaches the rest of the world. Davis’s Royal Oak is even more elite than that. This particular Royal Oak with a ruby-set bezel wasn’t officially announced; it’s not even listed on Audemars’s website. It seems to only exists on Davis’s wrist.

Justin Bieber’s Apple Watch

Typically we see Justin Bieber wearing luxury pieces from Rolex and Audemars Piguet, but at a recent Lakers game the popstar wore something a little more practical: an Apple Watch Series 3. The red dot on the bezel marks versions of that watch that possess LTE capabilities. Smart move by Bieber; you never know when you’re going to need to discreetly check some emails while the Lakers are getting smoked.
