The Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS) has announced plans for a one-day strike involving 100,000 members on March 15, to coincide with Budget Day.

Border Force staff will be among the members involved in the walkout, following similar action over the Christmas holiday period.

The news follows planned industrial action involving 1,000 Border Force staff at major French ports over the half-term school holidays.

In what it called “an escalation of its targeted strike action programme”, PCS said the latest round of strikes had been called “in response to the lack of movement from the government on our demands on pay, pensions and job security”.

Aviation analytics firm Cirium shared data showing that a total of 2,125 flights are scheduled to arrive into UK airports on March 15, equating to over 365,000 seats.

Heathrow is expected to see 610 arrivals on the strike day, followed by Gatwick (267), Manchester (173), Stansted (168) and Edinburgh (116).

In terms of individual carriers, British Airways is due to operate 479 flights arriving into the UK that day, followed by Easyjet (408) and Ryanair (265).
