Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall most recently toured the country in 2017. Camilla has personal connections to the country: the duchess’s great-great-great grandfather Sir Allan Napier MacNab was a Canadian politician who served as joint Premier of the Province of Canada for two years. Given this, Camilla is the royal patron of Dundurn Castle, McNab’s former family seat, which is now a museum and offers a chance to visit the home of ‘the family who lived above stairs and the servants who worked below stairs to support their affluent lifestyle’.

Ahead of the royal visit, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, has released a statement which reads, ‘They [Charles and Camilla] will have the wonderful opportunity of seeing first-hand the diversity and kindness of Canadians and the beauty of our abundant natural landscapes that make us proud to call our country home’.

Support for the royal family in Canada has wavered over the years, with recent polling by the Angus Reid Institute showing that only 52 per cent of Canadians wish for the nation to remain as a constitutional monarchy.
