Televisions’s night of nights is well and truly upon us, with the nominations for the 2022 Emmy Awards officially released overnight. The television spectacle is looking like it’s going to be a big one, too, with TV series like Succession, Euphoria, Severence and Ted Lasso all gunning for an award (or ten) in their respective nominated categories.

Succession broke records by becoming the first series to be nominated for an Emmy in 14 seperate acting categories, with a total of 25 nominations (including one for Australia’s own Sarah Snook). Succession’s fierce rival in the coveted Best Drama Series category is, however, Squid Game, the first non-English language series to be nominated for television’s top honour. Apple TV+ Severence is also up for a number of awards, including Best Drama Series and Best Actor.

In the Comedy categories, Ted Lasso dominated the nominations once again. For some, it was their first time being nominated for an Emmy Award, like actor Sydney Sweeney who earned two first-time Emmy nominations for her roles in Euphoria and The White Lotus. Others were left feeling snubbed, with the likes of Jennifer Aniston (The Morning Show), Kevin Costner (Yellowstone), Selena Gomez (Only Murders in the Building) and Sadie Sink (Stranger Things) all missing out on a (deserving) Emmy nomination.
