Lufthansa has confirmed that Boston and New York JFK will be the first destinations to see the A380 when the airline resumes superjumbo services this summer.
The German flag carrier placed its entire fleet of 14 A380s into storage following the onset of Covid-19, and has subsequently sold six of the superjumbos back to Airbus.
In June last year the airline confirmed it would bring an unconfirmed number of the remaining fleet back into service in summer 2023, and the first A380 was reactivated in January.
Lufthansa said that the superjumbo would operate daily flights between Munich and Boston from June 1, followed by daily services to New York JFK from July 4. Tickets for the services go on sale from today (March 23).
The carrier highlighted that its A380s offer around 80 per cent more capacity than the A340-600 currently flying between Munich and New York JFK.
Lufthansa’s superjumbos are configured with 509 seats – eight in first class, 78 in business, 52 in premium economy and 371 in economy.
The airline also confirmed that a total of four A380s will operate from Munich by the end of the year.
