It’s beginning to look, and feel, a lot like Christmas and nowhere was that more apparent than Sydney’s flagship Burberry story last night when the English brand hosted a festive season soiree.

To set the scene, the heritage listed 343 George Street boutique (a hop and a skip away from the recently opened Cartier flagship store) delivered a spectacle even before guests could get inside. Two smoke machines transformed the grand, Art Deco entrance into a misty gateway with two glittering Christmas trees standing either side like silent, joyeux sentinels.

Once inside, guests were whisked away to a Burberry-fuelled Christmas landscape. A mirrored glass house was the main attraction guarded by fawns and surrounded by a forest of pine trees decked out in twinkling lights. Overseeing the sound, electronic group Cosmo’s Midnight set the mood before a performance by classical string group Luxe Strings. Suffice to say, the songs of Britney Spears and Madonna lend themselves beautifully to the violin…

Seasonal decorations interspersed with Fall 2022 Ready-To-Wear that no doubt inspired many a secret Santa. Fuelling the evening was a menu that gave the Christmas lunch a modern tweak: turkey, thyme and cranberry pithiviers, crab sandwiches with caviar and blini with Yarra Valley trout pearls and crème fraiche.

Equally adventurous were the curated cocktails provided by Plated that were both festive and inspired: a Burberry Pimms that provided a delightful nod to the brand’s British heritage while perfectly balanced for the warm November evening; a refreshing Eucalyptus Gimlet and a classic Old-Fashioned. For those of us who were after something more effervescent, Louis Roederer Champagne was on hand.

For this year’s season campaign, Burberry hones in on and celebrates the joyous moments of preparation and anticipation leading up to the main event of Christmas. Dubbed ‘The Night Before’, it stars Colombian singer Shakira and Nigerian singer Burna Boy.
