Girard-Perregaux welcomes back a 1970s icon in the new Casquette 2.0 watch. Recognisable by its tubular LED display, the original quartz watch has been coveted by watch collectors and style conscious wearers over the years. After revisiting the icon last year for its ONLY WATCH 2021 charitable auction, Girard-Perregaux unveils the Casquette 2.0 housed in a lightweight, scratch-resistant ceramic case with a Grade 5 titanium caseback.
The Hour Glass invites you to discover the new Casquette 2.0 watch in our boutiques in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok and Melbourne (see below).
A Coveted Watch Icon from the 70s
In 1976, Girard-Perregaux unveiled a watch with a look that went against the norm. Unlike the look of traditional flat two-hand watches, it featured flat-shaped case design with a tubular LED display at one end.
Already ahead of its time, the independent manufacture Girard-Perregaux was at the vanguard of the quartz era. The 32,768 Hz frequency introduced by the Manufacture has been subsequently adopted as the universal standard for quartz watches.

Nicknamed “the Casquette” by enthusiasts and collectors, a total of 8,200 watches were produced between 1976 to 1978. It has since become a sought after piece by enthusiasts for its futuristic design and originality in time display.
A Casquette Piece Unique for Only Watch 2021
More recently in 2021, Girard-Perregaux teamed up with Bamford Watch Department to create a pièce unique based on the original Casquette in support of the Only Watch 2021 charity auction. Inside the forged carbon and titanium case, the Casquette Only Watch edition featured a new movement, the Calibre GP09380.

More Functions, Secret Date, and a New Case
This same new movement sits in the heart of the Casquette 2.0. Of course, the LED still shows the original function of displaying the time, day and date; the new movement comes with some additional functions, including month and year indication, chronograph, and second time zone. The most unique feature is the secret date (date, month, year): the wearer can set a date of their choice to be shown each day at a specific time.
Housing the movement is a scratch-resistant ceramic case with a Grade 5 titanium caseback. Along with the rubber-backed ceramic bracelet, the new Casquette 2.0 ensures maximum wearer comfort by being hypoallergenic and lightweight.
“Not all watches retain their looks and desirability with the passage of time. However, since production of the original Casquette ceased in 1978, the interest in this watch has never diminished… Quite simply, the original Casquette serves to further validate our reputation for designing watches with lasting appeal. We are delighted to welcome the Casquette back – a stylish watch that promises a lasting allure.” –Patrick Pruniaux, CEO of Girard-Perregaux
