Looking for some views with your booze? You’ll be spoilt for choice in Liverpool – the city has a real crush on rooftop bars. You might not even have to wait until the sun comes out to enjoy the best of them either. From swanky hotel rooftop bars to pop-up terraces, we’ve cherry-picked seven of the best rooftop bars in Liverpool.

1. FIVE at Seel Street Hotel

A swanky hotel deserves a glamorous rooftop bar to match – and FIVE doesn’t disappoint. It offers an alternative perspective of the city, with views of Liverpool Cathedral and out as far as St James’ Mount on a good day. Outside, there are comfy wicker chairs, oversized pot plants and parasols , with a dedicated spritz menu and an excellent range of cocktails to choose from. The bar is currently closed for winter, so keep an eye on the website for updates on spring 2023 opening dates. If you sign up for their newsletter, you’ll receive a special welcome pack gift from the team too.

2. Liberte

Liberte has ranked as one of the top 25 rooftops in Europe for good reason. Set on the third floor of the Bentley Building, the famous rooftop offers blockbuster views of the city skyline. It doesn’t take itself too seriously either: the terrace is crammed full of graffiti art, clashing colours and an artificial lawn. Plus, you can soak up the brilliant views, irresistible vibes and crowd-pleasing sharing platters all year round, weather permitting.

3. Garden of Eden at The Shankly Hotel

This much-loved rooftop bar is just what your Instagram feed needs. Set slap-bang in the centre of Liverpool, the spacious terrace is all artificial grass, cherry blossom trees and swinging chairs – all with views of the World Heritage waterfront. You can order frosty beers and bottles of bubbles from the bar outside, but we recommend sampling a cocktail or two. During the summertime, there are live gigs and rooftop cinema nights too.

4. Goodness Gracious

Atop West Africa House, a short walk from the river, sits a sparkling rooftop garden and bar boasting brilliant views of the city’s iconic Three Graces. The open-air bar is kitted out with wooden decking, lots of greenery and colourful cushions. Open daily between April and September (weather permitting), visitors can sip craft cocktails while the sun goes down or scoff ‘Afternoon in the Sky’ between 12 pm and 3 pm.

5. Matou Pan Asian Restaurant and Bar

There is, surely, no better view of the iconic Liver Building, River Mersey and Pier Head than that from Matou’s sprawling rooftop terrace. This stylish pan Asian restaurant and bar features an impressive indoor dining room with floor-to-ceiling windows for breeze-free views, but the terrace is a real show-stealer. It’s a simple affair, with colourful chairs and a few potted plants, as well as a dedicated bar with a brilliant selection of gins, cocktails, wines and champagne.  If you’re feeling peckish, you can order platters and dim sum baskets to the terrace too.

6. 14 Bar & Grill

This smart bar-restaurant perched 14 floors up at the Daniel House Liverpool apartment hotel has views for days. Unlike most rooftop spots, there’s plenty of seating too, along with a cosy rooftop hut for intimate chats. Open for brunch, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner and snacks five days a week, visitors can snaffle up everything from sushi to steak with views over the skyline and River Mersey. Eating at

7. PINS Social Club

Don’t be put off by the bowling shoes, there’s no requirement to wear them upstairs. For the past few years, the city’s favourite bowling destination has opened up a seasonal rooftop terrace. The sprawling space comes complete with its own bar, BBQ and full-sized shuffle court. Last year, the menu featured sangria pitchers, stone-baked pizzas and dozens of classic cocktails.
