San Francisco International has confirmed ZIPAIR will launch flights from Tokyo’s Narita airport this summer.
Exact details have yet to be announced, but the Japan Airlines low-cost subsidiary will serve the Tokyo-San Francisco route with its 290-seater B787 Dreamliner aircraft.
ZIPAIR will join ANA, owner JAL and United Airlines on the San Francisco International-Narita route – all three carriers also serve the Californian city from Tokyo Haneda.
The ZIPAIR brand was launched in 2019, and had been due to commence scheduled services in the summer of 2020, but the onset of Covid-19 led to the carrier initially launching as a cargo-only service from Tokyo to Bangkok and Seoul.
Passenger flights have since commenced to Bangkok, Seoul, Honolulu, Singapore, Los Angeles and San Jose (California).
Last year ZIPAIR took the decision to revamp its ‘Z’ tailfin livery, to avoid any confusion with a pro-Russian war symbol.
Commenting on the news SFO’s airport director Ivar C Satero, said:
