The Royal Family’s ties to the Kennedys date back many decades, with the Queen having hosted JFK and the then-first lady, Jackie Kennedy, at Buckingham Palace in 1961. Prince William’s grandmother later joined the president’s widow at Runnymede in Surrey in 1965, where the monarch unveiled a memorial to JFK. The ceremony was attended by guests including Prince Philip and John and Jackie’s children, Caroline (Schlossberg’s mother) and John Jr. After the poignant event, JFK’s family joined the Queen and her husband for a reception at Windsor Castle.
Prince William’s passion project awards winners £1 million to help fund their ambitious ideas aimed at tackling the climate crisis. Following the inaugural awards ceremony in London last year, this year’s Earthshot Prize will celebrate five more trailblazing projects, centred on five different Earthshot goals: protect and restore nature; clean our air; revive our oceans; build a waste-free world; and fix our climate.
