Why Chrissy Teigen And John Legend Never Tell Son Miles To ‘Be A Man’

Chrissy Teigen recently shared some insight into how she and husband John Legend are raising their two-year-old son Miles. The couple wants him to be able to embrace his emotions.

Because of this, Teigen says they will never tell Miles to “be a man” and shared some details on how the couple is teaching their son to have a healthy view of masculinity.

Teigen talked about the parenting philosophy she and Legend share in a new interview for the Beautiful Issue of People magazine. Teigen appears on the issue’s cover, posing with son Miles and daughter Luna.

“Miles is very emotional. He’s a lot like me too,” Teigen told the magazine. “He wears his heart on his sleeve, and we embrace that. I think more men should embrace their emotions. I think that’s really important in this world. That it’s okay to cry, and it’s okay to be upset about something or to be sad about something. We’re going to talk it through and it’s okay.”

“There is no ‘Be a man’ in our house,” she added. “There’s no right way to be a man, and John is so good about showing them through how he treats me how to be a good man, how to be a good father. It’s wonderful to see.”

In the past, the Voice coach has made it clear that he’s there to support Teigen.

“When it comes to Chrissy, I’m there as a friend, adviser and support system — to talk her up — but she’s running her own show,” Legend said last year.

Teigen also encourages Miles to enjoy things like nail polish. In a video recently posted to Instagram, four-year-old Luna can be seen painting her little brother’s fingernails.

“You know what? Chicken butt!” Miles says in the video, prompting Teigen to laugh behind the camera. Miles looks up at her and asks, “What’s so funny?” This just makes Teigen laugh more.

Teigen also told People that Luna is a perfectionist like her, and she makes sure to tell her that “there is joy and beauty in imperfections.”

“I’m an open, free spirit and I love kids to be kids,” she added.
