On a picturesque Fall day strolling through Boston’s seaport district, the street are cool and quite, with city dwellers taking in the crisp air. But on the corner of Northern Avenue and Fan Pier Boulevard there’s a notable buzz that can’t be ignored, coming from the restaurant which is none other than Committee. With a clever tagline “Meet and Greek” this mediterranean bar and restaurant is the hot-spot in town for drinks and greek food alike.
Perhaps not what you would envision as a typical greek-themed ambiance, the industrial chic decor does do a good job at bringing out a laid-back vibe. Inside, concrete floors with dark stone and brick tiled walls are warmed up with rich brown leather chairs and sofas beside the scattered green plants. The low lounge-like seating arrangement as seen above are accompanied by high-top tables in the back and ample bar space for a less formal vibe. A mesmerizing wall build-out made of wooden crates for the front bar extends onto the ceiling accented with hanging plants creating a unique atmosphere that you won’t find elsewhere. Adding to the eclectic decor, on the given Saturday at Noon when we visited, playlists of classic hip-hop artists like Biggie Smalls are on repeat. The restaurant definitely draws a somewhat younger crowd with it’s energy, but would be great for visitors of any age to catch up or chill out over food and drinks.
Classic mediterranean inspired dishes are served for dinner and weekend brunch at the “ouzeri” modern greek tavern. Playful plates like a reinvented Country Moussaka features an eggplant bechamel waffle with fried chicken and scalloped potatoe sauce. A sharing favorite – the Trio of Dips – served with pita is the perfect side for a palate pleaser with pumpkin tzatziki, kyrokafteri, and miso melitzanosalata. Might we add, the delightfully crispy calamari is perfectly seasoned doused with saffron aioli and ouzo agrodolce. Overall this vibrant gathering place hits all the right notes as the perfect spot to enjoy a bite out.
