Think of A-list power couple Justin and Hailey Bieber, and global diplomacy is probably not the first thing that springs to mind. But the pop sensation and his model wife have trounced expectations during a visit to France this week, where they met with the country’s President and his wife, Emmanuel and Brigitte Macron.

According to French news outlet BFM TV, the couple were welcomed to the Élysée Palace in Paris by the French President and his wife, after Justin himself reportedly requested a meeting as he was ‘passing through’ the capital. The group are said to have come together to discuss ‘issues related to youth’, during an engagement that took place on Monday – appropriately France’s Fête de la Musique (Music Day), considering Justin’s renown as one of the most famous young singers in the world.

An image posted to the 27-year-old’s Instagram account showed Justin donning a smart, dark grey pinstripe suit for the occasion (albeit livened up with bright blue Nike sneakers). 24-year-old Hailey (née Baldwin), who married Justin in 2018, looked chic in a tan-coloured midi-dress with a wrap-around, halter-neck design bearing her midriff and shoulders, teamed with strappy heeled sandals and a sleek up-do. Ever the elegant duo, Emmanuel and Brigitte Macron, meanwhile, opted for a classic suit and tie and a stylish all-white ensemble with brown high heels, respectively.

The two couples appeared at ease in each other’s company, smiling in the photograph posted by Justin, as well as being captured shaking hands, chatting and even sharing a hug (Justin and Brigitte), in images posted by the French President’s official photographer, Soazig de la Moissonnière. While the meeting may seem to have been a somewhat unlikely one, the Canadian musician reportedly has some French-Canadian ancestry and speaks a little French, and no doubt relished the opportunity to test his vocabulary during the meeting.
