We might just find the answer through the English electronic band, Shpongle. The group, led by Simon Posford (AKA Hallucinogen) and Raja Ram, is known for pioneering the “psybient” genre, which mashes psychedelic trance tunes with ambient music.
If you’re still scratching your head, you might want to check out the trippy Spotify playlist specially curated by Shpongle for Burberry’s upcoming fashion show. The British luxury fashion brand will be unveiling the follow-up to its first standalone menswear presentation, which it showcased at its Regent Street flagship back in February.
For Fall/Winter 2021, creative director Riccardo Tisci played up his design signatures, many of which fashion fans will recognise from his Givenchy years. The collection also featured fresh takes on Burberry must-haves, such as the Pocket Bag and the iconic trench coat.
But back to Shpongle and the mystery of their connection with the new Burberry collection. Perhaps the clothes will look as far out as the music sounds — like Burberry’s S/S 2021 collection, which was inspired by a love affair between a mermaid and a shark. Or maybe Tisci tapped on the duo for the transportive quality of their music, which could be reflected in the collection.
Whatever form Burberry’s next runway show takes later tonight, one thing’s for sure: it will be executed in an environmentally-friendly way. The fashion brand recently reported that it’s on track to achieving carbon neutrality across its footprint by 2022, and it has signed on to become Climate Positive by 2040. All of Burberry’s fashion shows since 2019 have also been certified carbon neutral, and this latest one will be no exception.
Tune in to the Burberry Spring/Summer 2022 menswear show later today, 23 June. We’ll be streaming it here, live from London, when it premieres at 9.00pm (Singapore time) through the video below.
