Blake Lively, who was a co-chair of this year’s event, was inspired by the Statue of Liberty when it came to her look. Her gown, designed by Atelier Versace, mimicked the oxidised hue of Lady Liberty, even changing colour as she ascended the famous Met steps (steps Lively of course helped to make iconic in Gossip Girl). She topped it off with a custom-made tiara by Lorraine Schwartz, which featured the same seven spikes as the statue’s crown. She then included 25 stones – in complementary hues to Lively’s gown – to represent the statue’s 25 windows.

Finally Tommy Dorfman made her Met Gala debut in splendid style, opting for a centuries-old tiara to accessorise her leather Christopher Kane dress. ‘The jewellery is actually from the time, so this crown is almost 200 years old, which is pretty sensational,’ she told reporters on the red carpet.
