It’s 2022 and the best event in the summer calendar and is back with vim, vitality and vigour. It’s not for any reason that Wimbledon is considered a Sport of Kings. There’s riches aplenty to be gleaned watching the sport on the television – but the real glamour lies within those gilded gates. Here’s what you’ll only see if you’re on the inside.
1. Royals roam freely – yes, you heard it here first. Not restricted to their exclusive royal enclosure, out and about, at large you might see Lord Freddie Windsor en route to the Sipsmith Pergola Bar in the company of the Duke of Kent. Or even the Duchess of Cambridge slipping casually into Court 9 to witness an up-and-coming British wildcard embark on Wimbledon glory.
2. Ralph Lauren, a dedicated, long-serving Wimbledon sponsor, is bigger than ever on the men’s polo shirts, on the ball boy jackets – and everywhere else this year. What was once a polo-playing emblem the size of a penny is now practically the size of a tennis ball. On the television set – this might pass you by; IRL, it’s not to be missed – subtle branding this is not. Go large or go home.
