Spread the love

Flanking Prince William on the other side, Peter Phillip’s younger sister, Olympic medallist equestrian Zara Tindall (41) known to have been very close to her grandmother, sharing with her a mutual love of horses. Whilst Prince Harry stood, motionless and reflective, on either side of him were The Duke of York’s daughters, sisters Princess Eugenie (32) and Princess Beatrice (34). It was only hours after they had released an affectionate tribute to their grandmother, which read, ‘you were our matriarch, our guide, our loving hand on our backs leading us through this world.’

The youngest of the grandchildren, The Earl and Countess of Wessex’s son and daughter, Viscount Severn (14) and Lady Louise Windsor (18) stood, heads bowed and arms crossed alongside their cousins. Lady Louise, who has inherited her late grandfather’s love for carriage driving, and Viscount Severn showed a maturity beyond their years, as mourners, who had queued for hours to pay their respects, filed past the coffin.

The Wessexes watched the vigil in a show of moral support, the Countess visibly emotional. Whilst the deep grief of the grandchildren during this very public tribute was all too clear, their composure was remarkable. A touching and sombre honouring of our Monarch, and their ‘Granny’. How deeply proud Her Majesty would have been.
