More than eight months on from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s ‘bombshell’ Oprah Winfrey interview, Meghan has returned to the small screen for another major television appearance, due to air in the US tonight. The Duchess sat down with talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, with snippets shared so far revealing that the pair harked back to Meghan’s former career as an actress, as well as talking about family life at home with Prince Harry and their two young children, Archie and Lilibet.
How the Duchess of Sussex has dialled up the glamour this autumn

In a teaser released by The Ellen DeGeneres Show ahead of the full episode airing, Meghan appears relaxed and at ease, smiling and joking with the talk show host, who is currently in the midst of the final series of her eponymous programme. The Duchess opted for a laid back yet sleek ensemble, teaming a white blouse with cut-out sleeve details with black trousers and chic high-heeled black pumps. Her glossy brunette locks were styled in loose waves, while her makeup was natural and understated.
In the clip, Meghan recalls coming to the same Warner Bros. lot for auditions during her early acting days. The Duchess remembers security guards wishing her well, saying, ‘Break a leg, we hope you get it!’, as well as recounting an anecdote about her car at the time, a ‘very very old Ford Explorer Sport.’ Due to a fault with the keyhole on the driver’s door, Meghan relates that she used to ‘park at the back of the parking lot,’ then ‘open the trunk, and climb in, then pull it shut behind me and crawl over all my seats to get out.’ She jokes that she would brush off any questions if someone spotted her by pretending she was hunting for something in the trunk, before telling Ellen: ‘The things we do.’
The Duchess’s existence today, of course, looks very different, and another preview clip seen by People reveals that Meghan also opens up about her family life at home in California in the new interview. Speaking about Prince Harry and Meghan’s baby daughter, Lilibet, who was born in June, Ellen says that ‘Lili’s now teething.’ The Duchess responds, ‘Anything to relieve that,’ with Ellen joking, ‘Tequila, anything,’ before Meghan adds, ‘That’s Auntie Ellen for you,’ to which the host wryly replies: ‘That’s why I don’t have kids.’
Elsewhere in the interview, the pair chat about life in Montecito, where Ellen is in fact a neighbour of the Duke and Duchess. When asked about how the family have settled into California, where the couple relocated after their departure as senior royals in March 2020, Meghan tells Ellen: ‘We’re just happy.’
People also reveals that the Duchess had her go-to makeup artist and hairstylist, Daniel Martin and Jason Low, on hand for the appearance, with Martin telling the celebrity news outlet: ‘We were backstage the entire time… It’s really fun and Ellen really pulled out Meghan’s goofy, funny side, which everyone will be able to finally see.’
