Bodega and New Balance‘s partnership has seen the duo dropping covetable kicks for several years now, most recently as part of NB’s amazing collaborative streak from 2020. Now the pair are back in business, teasing another ultra stylish running shoe remixed to Bodega’s usual high standard — this time, it’s the retro 990v3, discontinued aside from joint efforts like this one.

The muted, quietly luxe palette that informs this New Balance is in line with the rugged motifs seen in Bodega’s other recent special sneaker drops, including that nutty Saucony Grid Azura 2000 and the Nike Dunk High, retaining the subtle opulence seen in its recent Vans Vault drop.

Bodega has opted for an especially earthy color palette for the forthcoming 990v3, eschewing the retro runner’s usual dad-approved grey for a darker tone that accents the “N” logo and heel tab. Chocolatey shades of brown and beige, meanwhile, match the upper’s laces, suede and mesh panels to the molded midsole, making for a shoe as attractive as it is versatile.

It’d be hard to argue against anyone positing that New Balance’s chunky silhouettes look best in beige-adjacent shades. Patta and WTAPS‘ instantly-sold-out 991 and 992 certain help make the case, while New Balance Tokyo Design Studio’s 574 utilizes mild earthy hues to toughen up the otherwise trim silhouette (a huge ripple sole doesn’t hurt either).

No word yet on the release date of Bodega’s forthcoming New Balance 990v3, but fret not: plenty of other must-have New Balances are en route in the meantime, including Casablanca’s wild 327Slam Jam’s muted 991, and the muted “Grey Day” pack.
