An oasis of peace and tranquillity in the beautiful Caribbean island of Grenada, Silversands is the epitome of understated luxury, from the moment you are picked up from the airport in the island’s only Teslas to the warm welcome upon arrival and smooth check-in in the room, suite or villa.

Majestic royal palms are dotted around the property as well as lining the 100-metre showpiece swimming pool, leading out from the main entrance/lobby to the sea. The landscaping and lighting are immaculate, framing a modern contemporary and earthy architecture. The balance is perfect and flawless.

The feeling and sensation of space is remarkable. The rooms all have high ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows, a king-size bed as a centrepiece and amazing views of the sea, the garden filled with a wide variety of palm trees, and the magnificent swimming pool – created to ensure that you feel fully immersed in the natural beauty of the island. Five-star amenities are all in place, including intelligent guestroom connectivity and a sound system for those who wish to enjoy their own devices.

Silversands has two restaurants: Asiatique, featuring fine-dining Asian-inspired cuisine and Grenadian Grill, a casual beach club nestled between the pool and the beach. On my first evening, I decided to have dinner in Asiatique. The restaurant is beautifully designed, chic with ultra-high ceilings, striking art, views to the lit swimming pool and al-fresco dining on the terrace.

I started with Kloy Pla Tuna, a tuna salad with lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves and mint. Very fresh with a hint of attitude. The Pla Nung Ma-Now, Thai-style red snapper for the main course was equally delicious. And for dessert, the choice is yours; dig into a coconut lemongrass crème Brulee, five-spice chocolate mousse or a honey turmeric panna cotta. The flavours are sure to play with your senses. The wine cellar is extensive but makes sure also to try one or more of their signature cocktails; the King of Siam, Venice of the East and Island of Spice are as delicious as they sound exotic.

Should you wish to have a light lunch while lounging at the pool or on the beach or a change of venue for the evening, the Grenadian Grill and the adjacent Beach Lounge serve the Mediterranean and authentic Grenadian dishes, including freshly caught fish and seafood grilled to perfection. The bar is extensive, the cocktails amazing, and some evenings feature entertainment. I very much liked the mix of local residents and hotel guests enjoying the scene.

The Silversands Spa is absolutely stunning, with a unique design and private swimming pool. It features treatment rooms for both singles and couples as well as a sauna, ice cave, hammam and experiential shower, nail bar and Technogym fitness centre. Their treatment menu is extensive and unique and includes integrating aromatherapy, inversion therapy and psammotherapy – hot sand (quartz) therapy.

The first record of hot-sand therapy can be traced back to the Siwa Oasis area in 13th century Ancient Egypt. The Gharieni quartz treatment beds used today in the world’s top spas, including Silversands, use a thicker alpha quartz grain. The quartz is a tectosilicate which conducts infrared energy and delivers a more intense warmth, unique healing properties and a connection between body, mind and soul.

You feel instant peace the moment you enter the spa. The subtle music and the soothing energy set the tone for a healing experience. My treatment started with a leg and foot scrub before the 60-90 minutes signature massage. The warm energy from the quartz coupled with the therapist’s professional hands was fabulous. I emerged rejuvenated.

You can’t come to Silversands without experiencing the swimming pool, so I decided to do a few laps before soaking up the sun on one of the poolside lounges. It didn’t take long before I was offered a very refreshing mini banana, strawberry and pineapple smoothie. It could not have come at a better time. The attention to detail is prevalent at Silversands, and the staff is professional and attentive.

Unfortunately, I didn’t get to enjoy Puro, the cigar bar – but make sure you do if you enjoy small-batch rums, whiskeys and cognacs from some of the world’s finest distilleries. They arrange tastings and special evenings too.

There is so much to say about this fantastic property, including the signature architecture. One thing is for sure, you can’t go wrong, either with Grenada or with Silversands.

Note: Make sure you go for a trip around the island, visit the waterfalls, and the cocoa plantations and go hiking or diving. There is plenty to do, even just chilling around the hotel, having a walk on the Gran Anse three-kilometre beach and trying out a local hangout. Grenadians are very friendly and the island is safe. Enjoy!
