This week saw revelations emerge surrounding Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who was found to have used spyware to tap the phone of his ex-wife, Princess Haya of Jordan, during their divorce proceedings. After the High Court found that the Dubai ruler interfered with British justice, it’s thought that the Royal Family will distance themselves from the Sheikh, amid reports that he will no longer be invited to the Royal Box at Ascot.

Sheikh Mohammed is an avid racing enthusiast and has been a regular attendee at Ascot through the years (previously in the company of his former wife, Princess Haya), welcomed by the Queen to the invitation-only Royal Box. He has even gifted the monarch, who shares his passion for the sport, with racehorses, and has travelled with her at Ascot in her personal carriage.

It’s now thought, however, that the Queen will no longer invite the Sheikh as her guest, in order to avoid appearing in public with him. While Buckingham Palace declined to comment when contacted by the Telegraph, royal sources reportedly didn’t refute the idea that aides are keen for the monarch not to be photographed with him.
