Saved by the Bell star Dustin Diamond has been diagnosed with cancer.
The actor, who played Screech in the hit 90s sitcom, was hospitalised earlier in the week after complaining of pains across his body
Dustin, 44, was scared to get a lump on his neck checked out prior to being admitted, it is claimed.
After being taken to the hospital in Florida, US, he was diagnosed with having cancer, according to a statement on Dustin’s Facebook page.
It read: “At this time we can confirm that Dustin does have cancer. Dustin will disclose more information once it is available and a plan moving forward is made.
“We ask everyone to respect Dustin’s privacy during this difficult time. All positivity and prayers are appreciated.”
Dustin’s team have asked fans to send messages that they can pass on to the actor, who is believed to have stage four cancer.
However, a representative for the for star told the Today show on Thursday that “it’s serious, but we don’t know how serious yet.”
They added: “He’s going for testing. He hasn’t been feeling well. He’s at an undisclosed hospital in Florida. We are hoping for a speedy recovery.”
According to TMZ Dustin is already undergoing his first round of chemotherapy to combat the cancer.
The star’s pal Dan Block claimed he had a “huge lump” on his neck but the actor had put off getting it checked, The Sun reported.
He said: “Dustin has cancer – we don’t know what type or how advanced – we’ll find out tomorrow.
“Right now we don’t know how bad it is or where it has spread.
“It started off as a tumor on his neck – a huge lump on his throat – and it was very visible.
Dan added Dustin was “afraid of someone taking pictures of it” and “posting it online”.
Dustin played first played Samuel ‘Screech’ Powers on Good Morning, Miss Bliss, that became Saved By The Bell.
He played the character on Saved By The Bell on NBC from 1989 until 1993.
Dustin also portrayed Screech in Saved By The Bell movies in 1992 and 1993.
Spin-off Saved By The Bell: The New Class, which ran from 1994 to 2000, also featured Dustin.
